With the range of English proficiency in Korean university classes, a traditional lecture
style is insufficient for meeting student needs in content-based courses taught in English.
Therefore, I find it helpful to „flip‟ the classroom, for example, assigning core theory and content
as homework projects in order to reserve some class time for more student-centered pair and
group work. In doing so, I like to make use of a range of technologies, such as online materials
and social media. With learner-centered classes that incorporate content-based instruction and
task-based teaching, it allows an educator to understand student needs and adapt accordingly. I
aim to make each student feel that they have learned something valuable and that my classes will
My teaching philosophy is based on humanism: I believe the primary aim of education is
to provide opportunities for students to reach their potential as human beings and global citizens.
I have extensive experience in teaching English language and content-based university courses.
These types of classes require different strategies. First, as an English language teacher, my
approach promotes inclusiveness, enthusiasm, confidence, learner-centered education, and
understanding language learning as an ongoing process. I believe it is essential to understand and
adapt to the local context and I adopt a range of strategies for targeting different language
competencies (e.g., level-differentiated instruction and task-based language teaching). Because
Korean students learn English as a foreign language in a test-driven education system, I think it is important to challenge their understanding of what language is and how it is acquired. I find it
helpful to promote reflection on learning and to emphasize learning strategies.
Tuition fees will be the same for all students, regardless of different levels. The fees are payable in advance.
